Warwick, RI - The Rhode Island Republican Party is adamantly against H-6278 and S-0961 (also known as firefighter overtime bills) which would increase local property taxes.

Chairman Brandon S. Bell stated that "Republican municipal leaders in North Kingstown laid the groundwork where the Rhode Island Supreme Court ruled that managing platoon structure or shift schedules in their fire departments are management rights of the town.  Why would the General Assembly disregard our highest court by passing legislation that would effectively take these restructuring tools away from cities and towns?"
The Republican Party agrees with the Lt. Governor and many of our municipal leaders that these bills would inevitably impose an immeasurable cost on all Rhode Island cities and towns which most definitely will drive up local property taxes in many of our communities."

Chairman Bell further stated: "the Governor must publicly inform leadership in the General Assembly that she will veto ANY firefighter overtime bill that will compromise the North Kingstown decision and undoubtedly soak the taxpayer."
